Following our historic audience with Pope Francis, we were deeply honored to accept an invitation from Christ Trott, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Holy See. The ambassador and his team graciously hosted our delegation at his exquisite Vatican residence, offering a warm and engaging continuation of our momentous visit.

The setting provided a unique opportunity for our members delve deeper into the vital role of the ambassador and his office. Over refreshments, Ambassador Trott offered a comprehensive briefing on the intricacies of his diplomatic mission. He outlined the critical responsibilities of his role, particularly in fostering effective communication between His Majesty King Charles III and the Vatican. This dialogue, he explained, is instrumental in addressing global priorities that resonate with Pope Francis, including the urgent need to combat climate change, alleviate poverty, and foster peace in regions plagued by conflict.

The ambassador spoke with profound respect for Pope Francis, emphasizing the Pontiff's ability to inspire and mobilize people worldwide. "The Pope is a trusted voice on issues of global importance", he remarked. "He speaks to the hearts of individuals and communities across borders, and our work ensures that His Majesty and the Vatican remain aligned in addressing these challenges".

Members of the Order were invited to ask questions, fostering a meaningful exchange about the intersection of diplomacy, faith, and service. The conversation illuminated the pivotal role played by the ambassador in navigating these complex and essential dialogues, reinforcing the shared mission of both His Majesty’s Government and the Vatican in promoting unity and compassion on a global scale.

Reflecting on the experience, the Grand Prior of the Order, Richard Brown, expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity. "We are profoundly honoured to have been hosted by a member of His Majesty’s Government in such a distinguished and welcoming manner. Ambassador Trott’s insights into the critical work of his office have deepened our understanding of the collaboration required to address the world’s most pressing issues".

This visit not only strengthened the Order's sense of purpose, but also underscored the importance of fostering partnerships across nations and institutions. We returned to England inspired by the conversations held and with a renewed commitment to our mission of service and advocacy for peace and justice.

Ambassador Trott’s hospitality and the rich dialogue shared at his residence will remain a cherished memory for the Order, symbolizing the profound interconnectedness of faith, diplomacy, and shared responsibility in addressing the challenges of our time.
